Window or aisle?

I love getting a window seat when I fly. Sure, you get trapped in, and you have to interrupt the people sitting next to you whenever you need to get up to use the loo. The way I see it, though, the aisle seat is more convenient for getting up, but you also end up having to move out of the way when the rest of the row needs to get up. And you get your feet and elbows bumped when the beverage carts get rolled through.

I don’t think anyone will argue with me that the middle seat is the worst. There’s all that awkwardness with the armrests. I mean, which one is yours? Are both of them? When I get stuck in the middle, I always feel like I need to make myself smaller.

But when you have a window seat, you get a wall to lean against, and oftentimes, some great views. I’m not sure where I took these photos. Well, I know where I was. I was sitting in the plane, up in the air. But I’m not sure what part of the country the plane was flying over. Possibly Nevada.

How about you? Which seat do you pick?

I’m here at my sister’s house, and falling asleep on the couch. I don’t think I’m making much sense. But I liked these photos. And I wanted to post something before 9 pm, since my blog still thinks it’s on the East Coast.

  1. Window seat. Always. I love the gorgeous views, and being able to see the buildings, cars, people getting bigger as we descend.
Your photos from the airplane window are really good! Mine never seem to look as spectacular as they were in person.
Oh yeah, and welcome to California!

  2. I, too, like window seats best and center seats the least. Re aisle seats: on flights to places I’ve been to frequently, I don’t mind having them — as they can be convenient. But when flying to places I’ve never been or love, I definitely opt for window seats as I love the views one gets from them. :)

  3. Aisle seat! Always! I am mildly claustrophobic and sitting in the window seat seems to trigger this. Also – you can keep an eye on that drink cart, and can make a quick escape to the bathroom!

  4. Whenever I have the window seat, I make sure to board extra early and stake out both armrests. And I don’t move my elbows for the duration of the flight unless I find myself having to breath into a paper bag. You basically never want to sit next to me on a flight.

    Happy travels!

  5. I’m not a fan of the middle seat, but I suppose that’s a given. Generally I like the aisle seat best because I can stretch my legs more easily. But to be alone with my thoughts there’s no place better than a window seat. You’re in your own little world there.

  6. I like the window best…it gives me somewhere to rest my head when I nap. I haaate disturbing everyone when I have to go to the bathroom, though.

  7. Linked here from The Spectacled Bean to say hi, so… hi!

As much as I wish I could love the window seat (those photos are great!), I’m a strict aisle-seater. Between claustrophobia and a small bladder, it’s just easier. My favorite seat, though, is when you’re in one of those small planes with two seats on one side of the aisle and one on the other, so really it’s an aisle AND a window seat!
