the ceremony of innocence is drowned

Today marks 4 years since the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. That was an event that affected me deeply, hitting very close to home. I think of those kids and their families, of how much they have lost out. I see my own daughter, who was the same age as the children who were killed that day, and think how those kids also should have celebrated their 10th birthdays. They should have grown and learned and entered the tween years. So much was stolen from them and their families.

Today was also a day of horrific news from Aleppo.  Thousands of miles away, men, women and children are being senselessly killed. Many have shared their heartbreaking messages of farewell. The devastation is unfathomable.

I don’t have enough words to express my sadness, but I felt it was important to acknowledge it.
