Wanna know something kinda funny? I had occasion to mention a beer commercial during a work/research meeting this afternoon.
We were talking about an experiment we will be running, which will involve getting people to judge whether two similar-sounding spoken utterances of the same text are being produced with the same intonation contour (or the same meaningful “tune”). Because, as you probably realize, you can say the same words a whole bunch of different ways. Or the same single word, even.

Did you know that some linguist dude actually published a paper on the whole dude thing? It even got mainstream press. And I was like dude, the beer ad beat you to it! Because the beer ad had been out for a while at that point. Only it was different from the one you posted. I remember it being shorter and jazzier- more something for the football crowd. The one you posted has an incongruous foreign film music thing going on which I can’t quite figure out.
Are jen and I both waiting for your posts at midnight? You cut this one pretty close!
