There are times when I feel a bit overwhelmed by the connections.
Facebook has been great for tracking down friends my past lives, and I’ve reconnected with friends from many different phases in my life. But it’s too much all at once. I can’t keep up. There are friends that I’ve wondered about for years, tried to track them down on the web, and yet now that I’ve found them, I haven’t even managed to send a message.
I have other friends who live nearby, but we haven’t managed to stay in touch. Mostly it’s my fault. There are people I should just call.
I owe cards. Wedding cards. Sympathy cards. I owe thank you notes. Emails.
Don’t even get me started on being a just a tiny speck.

Science remix? Wow. That’s a new concept for me, and I’m (sort of) a scientist.
My best friend just gave birth to her first child today in New York, so life is feeling kind of miraculous and scary today. Also today, another close friend, who had her first child 2 weeks ago in Tokyo, called me on Skype. Talking to people in other countries on Skype, with video, makes me feel like we live in the future. Okay, we don’t have flying cars yet, and I don’t have a robot to clean my house, but Skyping feels like something out of The Jetsons.
Anyway, something in that feels relevant to a “science remix” about us all being connected to each other biologically, and to the earth chemically and the universe atomically… I guess it’s only natural to have a bit of a spiritual crisis* when faced with new life, and this video is kind of a spiritual look at science.
*(with connotations that are not necessarily negative! does crisis have to be negative? I actually meant it in a positive sense.)

Thank you for the vid. Beyond awesome. (I need to find a new word to describe this feeling). The vid somehow reminds me of the movie The Visitor… The ironic thing is: though I agree with you that the whole connecting through social media gets overwhelming oftentimes, and how I wish I had 48 hours a day, I cannot wait to tell people about this awesome vid through all social media available to me…

Re keeping up all the connections and (re)connections, have you heard of the rule of 150? The “theoretical cognitive limit to the number of people with whom one can maintain stable social relationships”? (I’m quoting wikipedia). It’s an interesting idea.
