Avast!

pirate_jack_rackham.jpg As Bloody Captain Rayner of the Fearsome Frigate Skwib informs, this week brings Talk Like a Pirate Day, an annual event that is marked by talking like pirates.

As we ramp up towards this venerable day, there are many piratical preparations to be made.

For a start, here’s a little quiz that helps you find your own pirate name. Don’t maraud on the high seas without one.

My pirate name is:
Black Anne Cash

Like anyone confronted with the harshness of robbery on the high seas, you can be pessimistic at times. You’re musical, and you’ve got a certain style if not flair. You’ll do just fine. Arr!

  1. Your pirate name is Red Mary Rackham

Passion is a big part of your life, which makes sense for a pirate. You have the good fortune of having a good name, since Rackham (pronounced RACKem, not rack-ham) is one of the coolest sounding surnames for a pirate. Arr!

  2. I be Mad Roger Flint, I be.

Every pirate is a little bit crazy. You, though, are more than just a little bit. Like the rock flint, you’re hard and sharp. But, also like flint, you’re easily chipped, and sparky. Arr!

Shiver me timbers and splice the mainbrace, Arr!

  3. only for you. and because the word “pants” was in the quiz.

    Your pirate name is:
    Mad Jenny Flint

  4. Dirty Ethel Kidd, which I resent, since I answered “Daily” to the bathing question, and then the description was all about how they toss me overboard for being stinky! Unfair!

  5. First, I must own that I were mistakin’ in sayin’ that Friday were th’ big day. Th’ day be this Wednesday.

    Black John Bonney-
The name suits ye, me bonny lad.

    Dirty Ann Rackham-
    Ay, it works.

    Red Mary Rackham-
Ay, Rackham be a good name, if a popular one.

    Mad Roger Flint-
Thanks for sailin’ in the waters of these parts. Arrrr.

    Mad Jenny Flint-
Ay, th’ pants. Th’ pants, me lass.

    Irish Painted-
But what be yer pirate name?

    Dirty Ethel Kidd-
Methinks it were spite. Perhaps a mistrust of the overly clean.

    Calico Charity Rackham-
Dude, that’s a pirate name? Calico Charity? I mean, arrrrr.
